"It's hard to dance with the devil on your back"
Of birthday, weeds and election days
Birthdays should be special. I had to make this one special early, ‘cause once I clock in at the sock mill, special is pretty much done. While we’re on “special,” t/y CL, for the encouraging words. As you surely know, conqueror is not in my portfolio, but maybe I can shed some (unpolarized) light somewhere.
And I found some weedy growing things that the lawnmower missed and tried to photograph them. Lots of what my neighborhood association calls weeds have delicate little flowers that can only be seen if one looks for them. The smaller they are, the more challenging to photograph.
Then I went to the polling place and voted. The election was a primary with only 2 contested races and an outcome mostly predestined, if not already elected in early voting. I’m quite sure my vote had no effect on the outcome and I would have stayed in bed an extra hour except for not wanting to feel guilty. After all, the Iraqis were willing to walk to their polling places and wait in long lines, all the while in danger of being blown to bits, or worse. So braving a 10-minute drive and the resulting boredom of being the only voter in the place didn’t seem so bad.
And voting’s a bit like free speech (not to be confused with foul speech). If thrives on frequent exercise, and sunshine.
